"Life and Death in Tanzania" - Tom Savage
"My wife and I traveled to
Tanzania in February and then again in September 2009 to photograph the migration of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles in the Serengeti National Park. The 21-day trip in February was to the southern
part of the Serengeti where the migration goes to have their babies, and just as we hoped, babies were everywhere. Every type of animal had babies, including the big cats and hyenas, and we were
fortunate to be able to photograph a baby wildebeest being born. An unexpected treat was to see and photograph 80 to 90 cheetahs".
"The 21-day trip in September was to the extreme northern part of the Serengeti near the Mara River with the goal of photographing the migration crossing the river and being attacked by crocodiles. September is also a good time for the big cats and we saw a lot of them. Although we only saw 8 cheetahs this time, we saw 109 lions."
"High Dynamic Range" - Hal Wallar
High dynamic range or more commonly called "HDR" photography has always been a challenge for photographers. Numerous methods have been
employed to help control the light and bring it into something that can be captured. These methods are still valid in capturing the best image possible which gives an opportunity to produce the
best photograph. Digital sensors like their predecessor film still have a remarkably restrictive ability to capture the full spectrum of brightness. Happily with the advent of the
computer and the digital "photo lab" there are now new ways to deal with the challenge of high dynamic range light. The goal of this presentation is to introduce HDR photography to those who
are curious about or as yet haven't explored this exciting area of photography and review the various methods available for HDR image making including some of the proprietary software now
available.
