Carlos Valdez, President

Carlos H. Valdez loves photography! To him, photos bring back happy memories and revisit special moments in time. He recalls his mother "bringing that black box along" everywhere they went, and is grateful to her for capturing those moments on film.

Carlos is the President of the Corpus Christi Camera Club and is serving his third term in office. Last year he was honored to have one of his photo entries awarded the Color Photo for 2008. He looks forward to every meeting to get together with the members and share ideas or plan for events.

Carlos was born and raised in Corpus Christi. He is married with two children, a son and daughter. He has five wonderful grandchildren which provide plenty of fun photo opportunities."

Lynette Browning, Secretary/Treasurer

I first became interested in photography when I was around 10 or 11 years old and had won a 620-film camera. I took lots of pictures and decided to take a photography class in high school. This was the beginning of a life-long love of photographing, developing and printing of my work. I moved up to a manual 35 mm film camera and still use one today, though not as much as my digital SLR. I love to travel with my husband and we are both avid photographers. Luckily for me he understands the need to stop suddenly when you see a picture waiting to be captured. I joined the Corpus Christi Camera Club in the early 1980’s. I have enjoyed learning from the other members. I enjoy sharing my photographs from my travels. Through PSA I have had the opportunity to have several pictures hung in salons around the United States. We no longer have a darkroom, but now use our computer and printer to edit and print our work. What a difference from the high school days of rolling, developing and printing. No more chemical smell coming from the darkroom, just the whiz of the printer in the computer room.

Hope you will come and join us.

Anne and Jim Weatherill

Anne and her husband Jim attended their first Corpus Christi Camera Club meeting because they wanted to learn more about photography in general and how to better use their Canon PowerShot S21S digital camera. They joined the club because of the congeniality, depth of knowledge and the generosity of the people they met.

Anne's previous camera was a Canon EOS Rebel II. The digital camera offers the Rebel's choice between automation or almost unlimited creative freedom, with the added benefit of instant gratification.

Anne's focus became weeds (a.k.a wildflowers) To her, they represent the everyday beauty that people generally overlook. Jim patiently pulls over if she spots a new flash of color or texture among roadside vegetation. She roams vacant lots, along roadways, and the beach; Squatting down to get the best shot. Fire ants feast on her toes and mosquitoes swarm about her face, while she can only hope that her sunscreen works.

"The camera, and Corpus Christi Camera Club, enable me to seek beauty in unexpected places and share my discoveries with others," she says.
